Registered Social Worker

Gaëtan Mallet holds a Bachelor's degree in Social Work from the Université de Moncton and a Master's degree in Clinical Sexology from the Université du Québec à Montréal.  As part of his studies, he completed several training internships, including one with street children in Pétionville, Haiti.

He has more than 15 years' experience in intervention, especially with children and adolescents facing emotional, psychological and behavioral challenges.  He is a member of the New Brunswick Association of Social Workers.

In recent years, he has worked with the Peninsula Family Service (Intersection Program) and the Mental Health and Addictions Service (Child and Youth Team).  He developed and co-facilitated the TRANSACTION support group for parents with a transgender child.

He currently works mainly with adolescents experiencing difficulties related to drug use and excessive screen use.  He uses the motivational, cognitive-behavioral and harm reduction approaches in his interventions, and likes to put the patient at the center of his work.  He appreciates community-based intervention and enjoys meeting young people and their families in their own environment.

He also has teaching experience and skills.  He developed the content and taught the Introduction to Psychosexuality course at the Université de Moncton, Shippagan Campus.  He also taught English as a second language in South Korea.

Gaëtan is an optimist who believes in people's potential.  He is empathetic, calm and open-minded.  Self-taught and curious, he enjoys reading about alternative therapies (body mapping; adventure therapy) and deepening his knowledge of addictions.  What he particularly enjoys in his work is meeting people, listening to their life stories and helping them to improve their daily lives.

He works part-time with the Mind at Peace Center, helping teenagers and adults with various difficulties.
